Dr. Zhou received his M.D. and M.Sc. degree from Shanghai Medical College (Fudan University), before a PhD degree in the glycobiology laboratory of Eric Berger at University of Zurich, Switzerland. He did postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Albert Bendelac at Princeton University and University of Chicago (HHMI). He started independent research at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, and was promoted to Associate Professor. He was recruited back to China by the national 1000Plan Project for young talents. Currently he is leading a glycoimmunology group in Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital affiliated to Tongji University. Dr. Zhou is member of Glycobiology committee under Chinese Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, member of Virology committee under Shanghai Medical Association, and editor for SCI journal Oncology Reports. He has been author of more than 60 publications including Nature, Science, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Journal of Proteome Research, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Glycobiology, and Carbohydrate Research (Hi-index 28).
Research Group Activity
Zhou laboratory published ion-trap mass spectrometry-based glycome sequencing of glycosphingolipids in the field of T cell epitope discovery (R01 project), and computer-predicted glycopeptide epitope library for cancer vaccines and monoclonal antibodies. Zhou and colleagues' discoveries have been cited in textbooks of glycobiology and immunology, including Handbook of Glycosyltransferases and Related Genes, Essentials of Glycobiology, and Fundamental Immunology. Zhou has received the Cancer Research Institute Irvington Postdoctoral Fellowship Award, People's Republic of China Ministry of Education's Chunhui Prize for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and PRC's 1000Plan Professorship for Young Talents.
In this project, Zhou laboratory studies the mechanism of N-glycosylation of CMV-specific immunoglobulins, as well as correlation to pregnancy which results in congentital CMV infection.
